Summary

Hundreds of children at a rural primary school in Tororo, Eastern Uganda, learn in overcrowded classrooms that limit learning and safety. This project will construct a four-classroom block, each designed for at least 55 pupils as recommended by the Ministry of Education, creating a safe learning space for over 220 children. The new classrooms will reduce overcrowding, improve attendance and academic performance, and provide a stronger foundation for quality education and brighter futures.

Challenge

A rural primary school in Tororo serves children from low-income farming families but lacks enough classrooms for its growing enrollment. Many pupils squeeze into overcrowded rooms or study in temporary structures vulnerable to rain, heat, and strong winds. Poor learning conditions reduce concentration, attendance, and teacher effectiveness, while increasing dropout risks. Without more classrooms, hundreds of children will continue learning in unsafe and unsuitable environments.

Solution

This project will construct a permanent four-classroom block, with each classroom accommodating at least 55 pupils. The building will include quality roofing, doors, windows, chalkboards, desks, and improved ventilation to create a safe and comfortable learning environment. Parents and community members will contribute local labor and oversee maintenance, ensuring the classrooms remain a lasting investment that supports quality education for generations of children.

Long-Term Impact

The new four-classroom block will provide quality learning space for more than 220 pupils every school year, reducing overcrowding and creating a safer, more engaging environment for teaching and learning. Better facilities will improve attendance, academic achievement, and teacher motivation while lowering dropout rates. This investment will strengthen the school's capacity to educate future generations and expand access to quality primary education across the Tororo community.
