We are thrilled to announce that our newest community learning center opened last week. This school is the first in the village and community leaders, parents, and students are all looking forward to the opportunities it will create.
A traditional ceremony was held which included distributing uniforms to the 29 kindergarten students who will be in the first class. The uniforms are sewn by graduates of our vocational training program.
Students will receive a daily lunch to help address severe food shortages in the region caused by the worst drought in over 40 years. The teacher, Basira, will also engage the students in planting a school garden to grow vegetables.
We are very grateful to everyone who has made this new school possible! We look forward to adding a second class next year and to developing evening programs for adult literacy.
