Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons do not have a shelter even here in Kinshasa
We continue with our work to identify Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees who are not covered by the media, those who are supported by international relief aid agencies, those who are in areas that are difficult to reach and those who are completely ignored.
In Kinshasa, the Capital City where we thought things could be much better because it the heart of all institutions, the situation of refugees and IDPs in the same like elsewhere in the country. Many are lack support aid. We estimate at more than 3,000 Internally Displaced Persons from Eastern DRC who came to Kinshasa and many are living in very difficult conditions including living on roadsides and begging is the only option they have in order to survive.
We estimate at more than 10,000 IDPs from Kwamouth who ran away the Mobondo war in Kinshasa living in harsh conditions without relief aid, we estimate at more than 25,000 people displaced by floods in Kinshasa and have nowhere to stay, and lastly we estimate at more than 5,000 people evicted by force from their homes due to development projects in Kinshasa and have nowhere to stay.
We are so much in pain to observe we do not have the funding in order to push for durable solutions to all these people by putting in place a settlement camp. In May and June, we pushed for this and the Governor of Kinshasa was willing to allocate a specific place for all these people but we could not manage to have all the necessary funds in order to make the promises happen, we were not even able to transport teams that could inspect the venue and so many other logistics.
To make the matter worse this move to create a safe space for IDPs has been put aside and it is no longer on the priorities and no one is following it up, this is a real harsh sentence to thousands of IDPs who are waiting for that moment when they will get a place they will call home.
It is on this ground that we do appeal on your generous support in order to continue our work which is highly vital to people we are targeting.
