Summary

This project will build 1000 temporal houses in Kikongo IDP Camp in Katanika Village, Kamelie City, DRCongo to provide shelter to the 3017 people who fled the war in North Kivu and South Kivu. This project will replace the current shelters they have put in place and which is full of risk for their lives as these shelters can get fire, can accommodate snakes, can leak water when it rains, and do not have any form of security especially for women and children.

Challenge

There currently 3017 people in Kikongo Camp who fled the war in both South Kivu and North Kivu, they are left alone without assistance, most of international aid agencies and organizations who provided aid left when the USAID which was the main donor closed the door, and the DRC is too preoccupied by the war and does not care about people. We there need to provide them with better houses in which they can live and therefore participate to their protection in this place.

Solution

We shall provide better temporal houses and much safer for all people in this camp, that will solve the problem of the shelter for the most vulnerable people such as women, children without parents, elderly and people with disabilities among others. This also will safe life because as per now people's lives are at high risks in these houses they have constructed and if we do not do so quickly in this dry season we shall have fire break out in this camp and it will kill so many people.

Long-Term Impact

If we provide these houses then people will have opportunities to rebuild their lives, feel protected, children will access education, people will engage on income generating activities, people will feel at home and deploy their energies and efforts to reduce poverty. This will save them from the burden to build and from the risks to stay in houses which are not safe. This will reduce rape cases against women and children among others.
