Engaging the DRC Government to allocate land to IDPs living in difficult situation in Kinshasa City
Many among us did not know that Kinshasa the Capital City of the Democratic Republic of Congo hosts various groups of Internally Displaced Persons who include: Those who fled the war in East, those who fled the Mobondo war in Kwamouth Territory, Maindombe Province, those who are victims of flooding and those who are victims of forced evictions.
The presence of these IDPs in some places have created deadly clashes with the host communities and recently 6 IDP died during a fighting with local people in Pakajuma, Kinshasa. Being without no fix place of residence has exposed them to various forms of vulnerability including arbitrary arrests.
Together with other partners we have started discussions with the Governor of Kinshasa to allocate a piece of land to all IDPs who would wish to live in a Camp for their security, and in this way it may be much easy to think about building them a shelter. The lack of better shelter and where to pass the night has been a leading cause of women sexual abuses and exploitation.
With more than 8million IDPs the Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a huge challenge in terms of humanitarian interventions.
We have highly depended on your generosity in order to assist those vulnerable communities, please support us again to that we can improve their living conditions and offer a shelter to women and young girls who are the most at risk.
