Despite Covid-19 pandemic and its effects, Generation Rise (GR) has continued to serve the community reflecting its mission vision and approaches, one of the projects that Generation Rise has continued to implement is Her Voice Matters (HVM). Many thanks to everyone who has supported us through GlobalGiving platform. Together, we managed to meet the fundraising goal which enabled Generation Rise to establish a safe space at Gahanga High School which serves more than 1000 students. This safe space is crucial component of the HVM programme and it provides girls with an opportunity for self-discovery, critical thinking and self-guided learning. This component has impacted young girls through accelerating and catalyzing reading culture and giving them space to come together to discuss various issues such as gender -based violence, sexual reproductive health and rights which affect their education and lives at large.

In our last report we have indicated the progress on identication and setup of Gahanga safe space. The GR team is now pleased to share that the safe space is fully established and operational. Up to now, in addition to helping girls come together, read, connect, and inspire each other, the space also hosted various events including training of teachers and monthly leadership workshops.

Generation Rise team is also piloting e-reading and two kindles have been purchased and books are uploaded and ready to be used at the space. We also acknowledge the gender gap in ICT and we are committed to make our small contribution to address the above gap. Through this safe space, girls are also given an opportunity to access internet and get familiar with the use of ICT.

The official launch of the space is planned to take place end of July and we will continue to share more updates and impact of the work that each one of you has and continue to make possible. We are grateful for your support and on behalf of girls, partner schools, we thank everyone who donated to this project.
