Report from Sep 1-Nov 30, 2022
The El Lustrador Foundation (ELF) helps poor children in Guatemala with their education. ELF is raising money to provide for these needs and something else: A room to eat in, and to come together when the pandemic lifts! ELF continues to work with the community that lives adjacent to the Guatemala City Basurero, or landfill, and the kids who attend Manuel Marcos Martinez School. The families in this community scratch out a living by scavenging at the landfill, and their children attend the local school.
On October, we celebrated Day of the children (Dia del Niño) to all the children who attend Manuel Marcos Martinez School, we had clowns, food, games, cake, candies etc., it was fun, René Corado was there sharing the happy moments with them.
On November we had 30 graduates from 6th grade! We bought medals, gifts and food for them it was a great day of celebration. These children/teenagers are ready to start 7th grade and beyond. Several of the students that graduated the past years from this school visit when we had the Dia del Niño celebration and told René that they are very happy continuing their education. Thanks to all your support these kids have now the opportunity to achieve some of their dreams thru education! THANK YOU!
Our fundraising is going well so far: from Sep 13, 2021 to Nov 31, 2022, we received $14,384 in donations for our goal of $50,000, in 180 donations from a total of 88 different donors. We have 7 recurring donors, if you are not one of the recurring donors; we hope you decide to join. And on December 23rd 2021 we received an additional $9,000 donation from a single donor! A great thank you to all of you, the donors, from The Board of Directors of ELF -- René, Linnea, Don, Eddie, René Jr., Dexter, and Tatiana – as well as our amazing volunteers in Guatemala –Marta and Caissa. We continue helping more than 200 families with food and more than 175 children with school supplies.
The Municipality of Guatemala City started building our proposed cafeteria and assembly room for students to gather during hurricanes and other times. After hearing about our project, the Mayor offered to help us build the room, they promise to finish the room the first quarter of 2023.
We talked with the principal and we agree to finish whatever the municipality won’t work on it for example change all the broken windows in the school.
In February 2023, René Corado will travel to Guatemala to distribute scholarships in Manuel Marcos Martinez School near the landfill, Las Guacamayas School in Morazan and also buy school desks for a new school in Morazan, El Progreso, there is a new school but it doesn’t have desks.
Thank you again and stay tune for new good news.
