Dear Friends,
Another great year is coming to a close. Our students returned home on Dec. 10th and began their month-long break. Our campus seems so quiet without them, but we are confident that they are enjoying their time with family and friends.
This time last year we were slowly digging and pouring a foundation for our Dining Facility and now we are celebrating the tremendous progress that has been made over the past 12 months. With generous donations from hard-working volunteers and donors like you we are at the point of completing a temporary roof on our first floor. Our goal of building a two-story facility that will also house several classrooms, a library/computer lab and a dining hall brick-by-brick moves closer to fruition. As the students attend classes the workers dig large trenches and remove the excavated dirt by hand. The work is difficult and slow because we do not have large machinery, but it is very rewarding watching the community come together to dig the foundation, haul away the dirt, and transport water for the cement to the site.
Our students understand the enormity of this endeavor and are amazed by the progress and growth of their campus. This project has allowed them to see how math and science can be integrated into real life work and most importantly to never stop dreaming. Many of them were on campus when our work began two years ago and are excited to be able to enjoy a healthy and nutritious meal in the dining hall even as we are building it. Your kindness has allowed our school to grow and blossom in ways we could only have imagined. You are the largest part of our change and we are forever grateful. Continue to follow the students progress in the classroom and our progress in construction on Instagram@ikirwa.school and on Facebook at Ikirwa School Project.
We want to thank you again, and celebrate your support of our school. GlobalGiving has generously extended their 2x match for all recurring donations throughout the month of December allowing your support to go further. All the best in the coming year.
Stay safe and healthy.
