2018 was a year of new beginnings, planning, and growth. We kicked it off asking and listening to what was needed in Georgia for children and youth victimized by human trafficking. With our partners by our side, and GA Cares eager for us to open our doors, we begin working towards breaking ground on a group home that will serve under-aged victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation. We launched our website, rebranded, and finalized our residential program. With our community of supporters around us, we officially launched in August 2018, and celebrated the passion everyone showed to join the fight in ending human trafficking.
This project was our first capital campaign and we were able to raise 7% of our goal in 2 months! Since then, we have designed the environment we want to intentionally create in our homes. We added aspects, like an outdoor area and technology room, in which research has shown is beneficial in battling PTSD. Working with a local realtor, we have narrowed down properties for our groundbreaking. We have been given an incredible opportunity to build a facility around our house to provide quality services and programming while preserving the essence of a home. This is more than just a residential program for boys that have survived the industry. It is a restoration for the future men of Atlanta.
As we enter 2019, we are pleased to announce that we will be offering survivor services outside of our residential program, for both adults and minors affected by human trafficking. With passionate partners in our community, we are able to offer services such as specialized healthcare, counseling/therapy, job/skill exposure, self-harm cover/tattoo removal, and tutoring. This allows us to assist and expand the demographic we serve, as we work towards opening our doors . Working together with partnering nonprofits, we are building a formidable community of anti-trafficking organizations fighting for survivors!
This year, we have also improved our ambassador program, and gained 2 additional members. One of them has signed up to FIGHT for our mission and the survivors we serve. On April 6th, Tommy will be fighting in the Brawl for a Cause, and we invite all of you to join us ringside as we cheer him on. Follow along on his journey as he prepares to step into the ring, and fundraises for our home!
We are so grateful for every single one of our donors, and the generous support you have all shown us. A special thank you to the 3 donors that have committed to being monthly supporters! This allows us to continue providing services on a constant basis, consistenly improve our standards, and increase the strong partnerships within the community.
Thank you for being #Allin with #HandsUnited!
Together, we can rewrite the stolen stories and restore a childhood.
Gratefully,
Tatyana Ferguson and the Hands United team
