Build a girl leader in Myanmar.

by Girl Determined

Girl Determined will ensure that 150 adolescent girls from conflict-affected areas have the chance to shape the course of their future by implementing our ongoing, structured, leadership and life skills programs. Programs have been tried and tested over the past four years. Girls in the communities have committed their desire to participate. Help a girl out!

The issues faced by adolescent girls in Myanmar - restrictive gender roles, poverty, dangerous labor, violence and early marriage - are exacerbated for girls displaced throughout the past four years of civil conflict. Often without the land that their families once had to farm, girls are under increasing pressure to drop-out of school and attempt dangerous migration to support their families needs. Some girls never make it back home.

This project engages a proven, two-year leadership program designed by Girl Determined and enhanced for the needs of the girls in conflict areas, in order that teenage girls gain critical skills and confidence to assert their needs and develop plans to improve girls' lives. "Once I joined the program realized that I can choose my own future and I must dare to stand up for myself and tell my family and the people around me that I want to go to school. I want to complete school." - Ma Aye, age15

Long-Term Impact

Girls become leaders in their homes, schools, communities and nations. Girl Determined is sparking a movement of girls with leadership skills to advocate for their own rights and a future that does not re-create the risks they now face.
