Food insecurity is worsening across Nigeria, especially in conflict-affected communities. This project will establish the Okigwe Community Food Bank in Imo State to provide emergency food assistance, nutrition support, and food recovery services for 15,000+ vulnerable people, including displaced families, widows, children, and the elderly. Through food collection, storage, and distribution systems, Empower Future Initiative (EFI) will help prevent hunger, malnutrition, and food-related poverty.
Years of insecurity and displacement have devastated livelihoods across Okigwe, Imo State. Many families have lost farms, businesses, and income sources, leaving thousands unable to afford nutritious meals. Rising food prices, unemployment, and recurring humanitarian crises continue to worsen hunger. Children, pregnant women, widows, and elderly people face increased risks of malnutrition and illness. Without a sustainable food assistance, vulnerable households remain in chronic food insecurity.
Empower Future Initiative will establish a community-based Food Bank that sources food through donations, partnerships with farmers, food producers, businesses, faith organizations, and humanitarian supporters. The project will distribute food parcels, provide nutrition support for children and pregnant women, operate emergency hunger response programs, and reduce food waste through food recovery initiatives. The Food Bank will serve as a reliable safety net for vulnerable families.
The Okigwe Community Food Bank will strengthen local resilience against hunger and future crises. Thousands of vulnerable people will gain consistent access to nutritious food, improving health, school attendance, productivity, and household stability. This initiative will foster community solidarity, reduce malnutrition, support displaced families, and create a sustainable humanitarian response system capable of serving generations. Together, we can build a hunger-free future for Okigwe towns.
