Challenge

There are currently up to 30,000 people in and around Konkourona, Burkina Faso using the health center in Konkourona as their primary source for health care. However, there is no diagnostic laboratory in Konkourona and the nearest one is approximately 2 hours away. It can currently take several days or weeks to obtain a diagnosis so people suffer and infectious diseases spread while waiting. The health center has become overcrowded with people waiting for diagnosis and treatment.

Solution

Addition of a laboratory in Konkourona will help facilitate diagnosis and treatment, reduce suffering, reduce overcrowding and save lives.

Long-Term Impact

The health center in Konkourona can increase in efficiency and effectiveness to enable diagnosis and treatment of more patients in the Hauts-Bassins region of Burkina Faso.
