The community of Sitio Bakal in Quezon City, Philippines maybe located in the midst of a highly urbanized city but its profile is far from that of a progressive, urban area. Road access is an everyday challenge for the community members as they have to walk for around thirty to forty-five minutes just to get to the school, supermarket, health facilities and other service establishments. Moreso, the community does not have access to basic utilities such as electricity and water so alternative solutions in the form of solar pipe and street lights and manual water pumps are present in the area.
In this kind of situation, children especially the younger ones are the most vulnerable and at-risk. The construction of Daycare Center in Sitio Bakal could have been helpful for the young learners should it was completed. Currently, Good Neighbors is still raising funds for the completion of the educational facility before the new school year opens this coming August.
