The S.O.U.L. Foundation Birthing Center will be built in the Jinja District of Uganda. It will provide a safe, clean, and dignified environment for expecting Ugandan mothers. Ugandan woman and their newborn infants continue to die needlessly from preventable causes as a result of poor access to and quality maternal healthcare in facilities. It will be a state-of-the-art facility that works in partnership with local communities to empower 1,000+ Ugandan women to deliver with dignity.
Rural Ugandan women die needlessly from preventable causes associated with 3 major delays in accessing maternal healthcare: the delay in seeking care, the delay in reaching proper medical services and the delay in accessing quality care. Because the existing healthcare system is overburdened in alleviating these delays, the maternal mortality rate remains high. This project will collaborate with local community stakeholders to bring a mother-centric healthcare model to women in Jinja District.
The Birthing Center will give women access to a local delivery center where skilled professionals can identify early complications and provide referral and transport options, alleviating the first delay in seeking care and the second delay in reaching proper medical care. Ugandan women will receive care in a high-quality facility, thus alleviating the third delay of accessing quality care. The Center will also collaborate with local community partners to strengthen the Ugandan healthcare system.
Working in partnership with local community stakeholders, the Birthing Center will provide high-quality and dignified maternal care to hundreds of delivering women per year, thereby decreasing maternal mortality in surrounding partner communities and establishing an accessible pathway for expecting mothers to access the maternal healthcare solution that most appropriately meets their needs.
