Thank you from Raleigh India

Completed tribal homes

Dear friends of Raleigh,

Thank you very much for supporting our work with tribal communities in India.

One tribal housing project was undertaken during July and August 2009.

The team was comprised of young people and volunteer project managers from India, Australia, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom and they rose admirably to the challenge. The project ran smoothly and the houses were completed and painted by the last day of the project phase when an official ceremony was held to mark the occasion.

A diverse international mix of young expedition participants and the tribal community at Muttilmoola developed an understanding of each other’s cultures and way of life and develop awareness of development and forest protection issues, as global citizens.

The Kattunayakan people were delighted with their new homes and positive outcomes of the project include:

- 100% of the village will benefit from improved living conditions - Reduction in illnesses over a 6 month period - Safer housing means that the villagers are protected from the risk of elephant damage This project has dramatically increased the quality of life for each of the 7 beneficiary families in Muttilmoola.

We will be posting further information in the coming months on how this project has benefited the tribal communities of Multimoola so do keep checking back.

We’d also be delighted to hear your comments on the project.

Thank you very much for your support and we’ll be in touch again soon.

Best wishes,

Mark Ashby Country Director Raleigh India
