Meeting out the needs of today's generation!

By Joseph Raju | Secretary, SPPD

Thanks to the generous people who believe our project is progressing positively and for helping out our youth in grading themselves as skilled trainees.

In April, 88 Hospitality students and 47 Paramedical Science students had appeared for their exams, results of which are much awaited in July 2016. Almost all the students who have completed their exams have been job placed at various hospitals/hotels.

The framework of our awareness programme during the past quarter targets adolescence to youths/women with the point of increasing awareness on existing vocational education which will help them improve their social status and living conditions and as well as to portray our identified strengths that is available at their reach.

The current academic year has enrolled 152 students under courses in Hospitality. Thanks to so many of you who have helped us in achieving our mission – making a significant impact on poor, less educated youth by upgrading their skills for income generation which will lead them to a better living and self esteem. The sequence of support envisaged under the programme is to support the youth with their most essential needs like, expenses pertaining to uniform, educational materials (text, note books, stationery), lunch and travelling allowance which will help them continue their studies without any difficulties.

TRUE STORY

Jeganathan’s family includes himself, his parents, and a brother Jeyaraman. His father is a building contractor while mother is a housewife. His brother, who was average in studies, undertook the bakery profession, though not professional trained, at quite an early age and now owns a bakery shop. His parents meet out the family expenses with the income they receive.

Taking his brother as a role model, Jeganathan joined the Hotel Management II year course after his schooling. As a part of their regular curriculum, he was also sent for his internship programme at Manipal County, Bangalore which had served as a learning platform to help him improve his cooking skills.

“After my schooling I was totally confused as to what course I shall pursue.  I chose the Hospitality Course. My aim in life is to work on luxury cruise. Being formally trained at a Caterer I believe it will help me achieve my goal. I am thankful to all those who are supporting this programme, and the opportunity they have given me for pursuing a skill.”
