Our sincere appreciation to all the donors on Global Giving for all their support in providing youth with vocational skill training.
All the Catering students who are undergoing their on-the-job training at various hotels, were set on regular visits by the Project Co-ordinator. Along with the assistance of the Hotel Managers, a counseling programme was held for the students brushing them up on the benefits of perusal of the course.
Meanwhile the Paramedical students assumed their regular courses in the morning and set themselves to the on-the-job training session in the noon hours.
For this quarter we were glad to have Mr.Conor Brown, Volunteer from Ireland to help the students with Basic English speaking and writing skills. They were made to frame small sentences correctly, practiced on pronunciation of words, and reading skills. Basic handling of computers, its operations, etc. were imparted to the students who till the completion of their schooling are not acquainted to it. We follow a standard pattern in coaching them on its usage and operations.
All the paramedical & catering students who had appeared for their exams have passed out successfully and were awarded with their certificates.
TRUE STORY
Thirupathi’s father Mr.Gopal is a fruits vendor while his mother Muthumani is employed as a daily wage labourer in the MGNRE scheme run by the Government. His younger sister Lakshmipriya is mentally retarded and has polio attack from her childhood. His elder brother is a farm labourer while his elder sister is settled with marriage. Though his father is running his own business, this fetched him little income. His mother has serious health problems and hence she is unable to go for work regularly. His father has visual problems due to the recent accident he had met. Hence the family is entirely dependent on their children’s income which is barely enough to meet out the entire basic amenities, medical and educational expenses. During free time, his father engages himself with daily wages under the MGNRE scheme run by the Government. In spite of their hardships, they are determined to educate their son Thirupathi.
On completing his Hr. Sec. Schooling, Thirupathi joined the Hotel Management Course in Musiri. Though he had selected it with great hesitation, during the course of time, he understood the benefits of the vocational course he had selected and later involved himself in all the classes with great enthusiasm and passion.
He is now under his training period in Bangalore drawing a stipend of Rs.5000/- which he uses towards the medical treatment of his younger sister.
“It’s a great opportunity because it gives me the independence and helps me to stand on my own feet. There is a lot of scope in this field, I can earn and financially support my family,” says Thirupathi.
