By Daniel Marulanda | Project Leader
Residents of Comuna 13 in Medellín have survived to the crossed fire between illegals and the authorities that took place for decades. This level of confrontation has limited the economic development of the population, and it has not let them overcome poverty. This project will allow 10 entrepreneurs living here to gain administrative and marketing skills and become social and economic leaders, thus to contribute to the identification and development of the market opportunities in the neighborhood they live in.
One of these entrepreneurs is John Jairo, husband, father of one and founder of Ecocalzer, an eco-friendly footwear producer. John Jairo wants to promote the responsible consumerism among people and to prove the world that Colombia produces and exports more qualitative products other than coffee. Ecocalzer manufactures biodegradable products out of organic fibers and recycles reusable products, such as PVC, PET recipients or rubber. They have 3 clients that buy the products and sell them further in their stores, but what Ecocalzer wants is to reach more customers in shopping malls. In order to be able to do this, they need to strengthen their production unit, increase their sales and production capacity and enhance their brand awareness within the country.
We know our donors are amazing people that see the value of their involvement in our projects so this time we prepared a surprise for those of you who decide to send your gift to ‘Bringing hope to 10 families in Medellín’project. Besides the amazing feeling of being the change in someone’s life, you can also win a ticket to a local event happening in your city, that you can attend with a friend. Check the steps here.
Donating on Wednesday, July 16th, increases both the impact of your gift and your chances to win the prize. On Wednesday, Global Giving runs the 3rd Bonus Day of the year. Until 11:59 pm EST, Global Giving matches each donation with 40%. This means your impact on these families’ lives increases if you send a gift today.
