Project Report | Feb 19, 2014
Burrugugu, a handicraft entrepreneurship

By Daniel Marulanda | Project Leader

Burrugugu's Family
Burrugugu's Family

Hello dear supporters,

Since we are still raising funds for the project, this time I am going to introduce you the second one of the 10 beneficiaries of the funds you have donated to us (remember the first one was Sabor y Delicias).

Burrugugu is a family entrepreneurship dedicated to the development and marketing of women accessories. This family belongs to an indigenous group which traditionally makes special  bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings of their culture. These products are often commercialized in fairs or craft shops, they do not have their own store.

The family business has about 2 years in the local market in Medellín. It generates informal employment to family members, but despite perseverance, effort and dedication of  its owner, the business has not gained much success, as their crafts involve expensive labor that the local market is not willing to evaluate. This is the principle reason to give a hand to Burrugugu, so they may find new customers using social media and digital channels.

Burrugugu's leader dreams on the day she can export their handicraft work to people from other countries that find their work really specially made. She dreams also on the day the business has a fixed location where they can provide comfort to their customers and get their inputs and investments secured, but most important, she dreams on the day her entrepreneurship really represents benefits to her family.

As I told you in a previous report, Burrugugu was one of the business created thanks to a project we developed on 2012 using grants resources from Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, but as you may know, to help people get out of difficult situations takes more efforts than a year of accompaniment. With this new project we are seeking to prepare and make possible the commercialization of Burrugugu’s craft products using digital channels such as Facebook or e-commerce platforms, so they can sell more of them to other customers, increasing their business income.

Once again I only have words of gratitude to all of you based on the confidence you have shown to this project, and I also encourage you to keep helping to spread the word about this noble cause, so we can make our plans of business strengthening possible to these ten Colombian entrepreneurs, who made the choice to develop a legal activity to make a living for them and their families.
