Bringing Hope to 10 Families in Medellin, Colombia

Since we are currently in the fundraising process for this project, this time I am going to tell you about it's context and it’s background, then you’ll have more knowledge about what we have been doing and what we want to do with your help.

This project started three years ago; back then we received a grant from the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia (País Vasco) to support entrepreneurs from Comuna 13 in Medellín, an area of the city that has been in conflict for many years.  In 2010 we created 52 new businesses, in 2011 we supported 22 vulnerable entrepreneurs with their startups, and in 2012 we could create 30 new businesses in Comuna 13.

As you may understand, entrepreneurship is a very hard choice to make a living, and much more if you are in poverty with no education record.  According to this, many of the businesses we could create years before have shown difficulties to operate normally; this situation has made us realize that they need more support to run in a better way their productive units.

GlobalGiving has become a partner that gives us the opportunity to make this social project, which started years ago, sustainable during time. In this vein we selected 10 of the businesses created in Comuna 13 in the past to keep helping them involving special people like you who selflessly, and with a huge heart, have given us a hand to make their dreams still reachable.

When these 10 entrepreneurs got noticed about this new project through GlobalGiving, they were very grateful, and all of them raise their voices to give to each one of the donors a very big THANK YOU for believing in them.
