Your gift will help to increase food security for families in Abaco that are still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian and the effects of the COVID 19 Global Pandemic. You will be providing supplies for over 200 Backyard Farmers, and providing breakfast to 235 school children.
The tourist driven economy in Abaco is very susceptible to disrupting factors such as natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the world economy. Following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian and a Global Pandemic, many families are still struggling to get back on their feet. The cost of food has risen dramatically and food security is an issue. The unemployment rate remains high and well paying jobs are hard to come by.
Our Backyard Farms Program and our Aquaponic Community Garden increase food security by helping families to grow their own food. The ABC Breakfast Program provides a nourishing breakfast for the primary school students to help them focus throughout the day and improve their chance of academic and personal success.
The increase of agriculture practices for personal and commercial use will help to reduce dependence on imports and improve economic well being for families and individuals in Abaco.
