Bring Safe Water to Munigi's Displaced Families

In Munigi/Ngangi, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, approximately 25,650 displaced people are living without reliable access to safe drinking water. Women, children, and older people are often forced to walk long and unsafe distances, sometimes at night, to collect contaminated water. Beyond the risk of waterborne diseases, these journeys expose vulnerable women and girls to violence and sexual abuse. For families who have already lost their homes and livelihoods because of conflict, the daily struggle to find water adds another painful burden.

Our project, “Bring Safe Water to Munigi’s Displaced Families,” aims to provide clean, reliable, and accessible water to approximately 10,000 displaced people through the installation of a solar-powered deep-water borehole equipped with a hand pump. The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. We are working to identify the appropriate technical trainers and community participants and to prepare the conditions needed to begin implementation. The total project budget is US$21,000, and no funds had been raised at the time of this report. Through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, however, we are confident that we can reach this fundraising goal and turn this urgently needed plan into a functioning water source for displaced families.

 The impact of this project will go far beyond access to water. A safe water point close to people's homes will reduce the time families spend searching for water, lower exposure to disease and violence, improve hygiene, and give women and children more time for education, household activities, and rebuilding their lives.
