This project will drill and install a deep-water well in Munigi village, Ngangi, North Kivu, DRC, to provide clean and safe drinking water to 10000 displaced people. These families mostly women, children, and the elderly fled war and now walk miles at night to fetch unsafe water. By installing a secure water source near their homes, we will reduce disease, prevent violence, and restore dignity.
In Munigi/Ngangi, Democratic Republic of Congo, 25,650 displaced villagers live without access to clean water. Women and children walk long, dangerous distances often at night to fetch contaminated water, exposing them to waterborne diseases and sexual violence. This crisis deepens poverty, trauma, and social stigma, especially for girls and women in this already war-torn region.
We will install a solar-powered borehole well equipped with a hand pump, providing clean, nearby, and reliable water access. This solution will drastically reduce the time and danger of fetching water. It will prevent waterborne illnesses and sexual assault, improve hygiene, support household stability, and enable women and children to focus on rebuilding their lives with dignity.
Clean water will transform Munigi by improving health, safety, and education. With fewer illnesses and less risk of violence, women and children can focus on healing and learning. The well will serve as a foundation for development, resilience, and dignity in a community devastated by war. Over time, it will help break the cycle of poverty and empower future generations.
