Weaving People to Grow Foundation (WPTGF) initiated education for out-of-school children through its Non-Formal Education Centre (NFEC) in July 2023. We are pleased to report that 60% of the enrolled children have successfully transitioned into mainstream schools and are currently continuing their education. WPTGF is proud to be part of GlobalGiving for this project and remains committed to raising additional funds over the next four months. The progress achieved during the last four months has been highly encouraging. Currently, 35 Children studies at WPTGF Lalkurti Non-Formal Education Centre, and we are submitting the report relating to it. Due to unavailability of funds, we could not fund other centres, but the Lalkurti NFEC is based in our office, therefore, and is directly run by our staff members.
Children’s Academic Progress:
The second-term examinations of 22 children were conducted in October 2025.Fourteen students from Nursery, Prep, Classes 1 and 2 achieved A+ grades. Four children from Nursery and Prep secured B grades, while two children from Nursery and Class 1 received C grades. Two students from Classes 3 and 4 obtained D grades due to frequent absenteeism caused by family-related issues. Following this, the NFEC teacher called parents and encouraged them to ensure their children attend the WPTGF Centre regularly.
Parent-Teacher Meetings:
WPTGF conducts monthly parent-teacher meetings. Approximately 60% of the children’s mothers are illiterate and engaged in ancillary jobs, which often limits their ability to focus on their children’s discipline and education. During these meetings, parents are counseled on the importance of regular school attendance, child hygiene, and a balanced diet. Additionally, health screening of NFEC children was conducted in collaboration with IFWA and One Health Medical Services. Doctors reported that 95% of the children are malnourished. This information was shared with parents, and they were advised to provide at least two to three fruits per week to improve their children’s health.
Enrollment into Mainstream Schools:
WPTGF is currently in the process of enrolling 35 children into government mainstream schools. The children are preparing for their admission tests scheduled for the first week of March 2026.
Challenges:
Regular parental awareness sessions are critically needed. WPTGF has observed that parental negligence and lack of motivation are major reasons children remain out of school. There is a strong need to educate parents on the importance of education, discipline, and consistent support to ensure their children’s long-term progress.
Upcoming Activities:
WPTGF will conduct final-term examinations for NFEC students in March 2026. Awareness sessions for parents on the importance of education and child discipline will also be organized.
