Literacy for Amazon Children: Project Update

Project Report:

Dear friends,

We are writing to share an honest update about our project, “Bring Literacy to 1,674 Children in the Amazon.”

At this stage, we are still seeking the funds needed to begin implementation of this important literacy project in rural schools of the Peruvian Amazon. The need remains urgent. According to Peru’s Ministry of Education and the ENLA 2025 learning assessment, rural schools continue to require strong support so that more students can achieve the essential learning outcomes they need for their future.

Through Arca Beta, we are preparing the implementation of the ALfA accelerated literacy program, a practical methodology designed to help children strengthen reading, writing, and basic learning skills. Our work focuses especially on rural and multigrade schools, where teachers often face limited resources, long distances, and children with different learning levels in the same classroom.

Although we have not yet started the full implementation, we have been working on the necessary preparation: coordinating with local education authorities, identifying schools that could participate, organizing learning materials, and planning how to measure students’ progress before and after the program. These steps are important to make sure the project is responsible, measurable, and useful for teachers and children.

Once the required funds are secured, the next stage will include teacher orientation, baseline assessments, literacy activities with students, and monitoring of learning progress. Our goal is not only to bring materials, but to create a clear and practical path for children in the Amazon to improve their literacy skills and confidence.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who believes in this mission. Your support helps us move closer to starting this project and bringing real learning opportunities to children who need them most.

With gratitude,
Arca Beta Team
