In the Peruvian Amazon, 1,674 children will gain foundational reading and math skills in just 45 days using the ALfA (Accelerating Learning for All) method. After a pilot raised literacy from 32% to 80%, this project scales the proven, joyful, paired-learning model to 20 schools, empowering teachers and communities to ensure every child learns to read and do mathematics.
In the Peruvian Amazon, many children finish primary school unable to read or do basic math. Isolated villages, few trained teachers, and scarce materials make learning difficult. In PISA 2022, over 60% of Peruvian students failed to reach minimum reading levels. In Loreto, the situation is worse - fewer than 3 in 10 children can read, deepening cycles of poverty and exclusion.
This project brings the ALfA method to 20 Amazonian schools, teaching 1,674 children to read and count in just 45 days. Using paired learning, colorful materials, and trained teachers, ALfA turns classrooms into joyful spaces for rapid learning. A pilot in Loreto raised literacy from 32% to 80%, proving it can transform education across the Peruvian Amazon.
By teaching 1,674 Amazonian children to read and count, this project builds lifelong learning skills. Trained teachers will continue using ALfA, multiplying the impact in new classes and schools. As literacy grows, children gain confidence, stay in school, and create brighter futures for their families and communities across the Peruvian Amazon.
