A Long Awaited Celebration

Lexi places her memorial stone at the Caring Cabin

Lexi is a spunky, 5-year-old girly girl who loves Barbie dolls, the color pink, and playing with her cat named Sushi Shrimp Rollup.

In 2012, Lexi was diagnosed with a high risk form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She's endured tough treatments along with their side effects, but after a two and a half year battle, Lexi, a 2014 CCA Hero, is finally celebrating being in complete remission, culminating her journey with a trip to the Caring Cabin!

Lexi’s family joined in the celebration and enjoyed the sunshine at the Oregon Coast with barbecues out on the deck and paddling on the lake.

During their trip, it was up to everyone else to keep up with Lexi’s pace. When they made an outing to Pacific City, Lexi made the big climb to the very top of the sand dune. Though she was thrilled with her accomplishment, it didn’t take long before she was barreling back down the hill, running and rolling as fast as she could.

When the rain showed up, Lexi and her family retreated indoors. The peace and quiet of the cabin provided an opportunity to reflect on the incredible journey they’ve been on together and how far Lexi has come to make it to the point of complete remission.

Lexi’s mom recently shared this note after their visit: “After two and a half years of chemo, multiple blood transfusions, and numerous hospitalizations, we were finally able to truly celebrate our daughter Lexi's remission from Leukemia. Thank you CCA for your support over the past few years and for this experience we shall not soon forget.”

  • The Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin™, a secluded home along the Pacific Coast nestled in 24 acres of surrounding woods with plentiful wildlife and a serene lake, provides an essential health connection with nature and an extraordinary place for families to relax and create once-in-a-lifetime memories.
  • Link, a community network of caring people and organizations that provides wishes and unites local families with essential needs and connections to resources.
  • Chemo Pal Mentor® Program, an award-winning program that matches children and teens with trained adult mentors
  • MyMusicRx®, a one-of-a-kind music medicine program that lets “kids prescribe” the music experience that feels right to them. The in-hospital program, led by MyMusicRx Specialists, includes bedside music and provides access to CCA’s digital music medicine program, MyMusicRx.org, which enables kids to play free music games, explore digital instruments and watch exclusive video song prescriptions from their favorite artists – whenever and wherever, 24/7
