The Joy Effect

By David Schaeffer | Vice President of Development

Lauranne
Lauranne

A vibrant four-year-old, Lauranne has an inner core of joy that shines for all to see. Despite rigorous treatments to help beat leukemia, her love for music fuels her energy to sing, dance, play the ukulele and write original songs with CCA’s Music Rx team.

CCA’s award-winning Music Rx program, comprised of music specialists and highly trained volunteers, infuses hospitals with the healing power of music by delivering bedside therapeutic music medicine, staging hallway performances and engaging sick children and teens with Music Rx’s exclusive, magical, custom-designed mobile music cart.

Other CCA programs that prescribe joy to families with sick children and teens include:

  • Chemo Pal Program, a mentor program that pairs children and teens one-to-one with compassionate adults who offer supportive relationships throughout chemotherapy or other treatments;
  • LifeSupport, a family enrichment program that brings hope during the overwhelming and financially depleting journey by helping families with essential needs; and
  • Caring Cabin, a beautifully secluded retreat home built to provide family members and loved ones with a place where they can rest and be a family together.

With your generous donation CCA can grow these award-winning programs to prescribe joy to more children, teens and families.
