Across the country, countless citizens of all religious and ethnic backgrounds do not visit doctors, and therefore miss screenings for signs of preventable illnesses. Many of these people require health services which they do not know how to access, and many are entitled to rights and benefits of which they have no knowledge. Access to health services and health-related social benefits promote good health and improve the quality of life of poor and impoverished people by maximizing resources.
YEDID's Mobile Health Center provides free, on-site screenings for cardiovascular risk factors and glaucoma; offers referrals to doctors when necessary; and engages in long-term follow-up to ensure ongoing care. We also educate clients about their legal rights within the health system; assist people in accessing diverse medical services, equipment and other health-care resources; and help them navigate the bureaucracy of the country's health system in order to secure maximum benefits.
This year, the mobile unit will provide check-ups and health-related education to 4000 low-income and impoverished people. By catching and treating illnesses at an early stage, the project will prevent potential health crises. By helping people access their legal rights, it will save them money and improve the quality of their lives. The mobile unit is a cost-effective way to serve a broad social and geographical range, and to collect valuable information on the needs of vulnerable populations.
