BRING CLEAN WATER TO CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS IN CHINA

We are excited to announce that, this month—because of your generosity and compassion—we will be installing two water purification systems for this project in China: one at Jingeng Rehabilitation Hospital and another at Jinrui Rehabilitation Center in Henan Province. Both do incredible work treating children with cerebral palsy (CP). Started by a woman whose own daughter has CP, the hospital and center treat hundreds of kids each month, many of whom reside at the hospitals for months at a time.

Until this month, the hospitals spent upwards of US$200/month on bottled water for drinking. The new water systems will provide not just clean water for drinking, but also for food preparation, hand washing, and bathing. Each water purification system uses a remarkable technology called ultrafiltration, which removes 99.999% of biological contaminants that can cause severe illness in children, such as E. Coli and giardia. Manufactured by the A.J. Antunes Company, they are the same water systems used throughout restaurant and hotel chains in China to provide high quality, safe water for paying customers. With your help, we are able to bring that same high standard of service—along with a 10-year commitment of spare parts, training, maintenance, and support—to children in pediatric hospitals in China. In year 11, Jingeng and Jinrui will take over full ownership of their water systems, plus they will have the support and knowledge they need to keep clean water flowing for the long term.

On November 1, 2012 we completed our 500th active installation of clean water systems in China. The 500th installation was at Ganjiaping Elementary School located in Badong County, Hubei Prefecture, China. This school has 310 students and 16 staff.

This project is almost completely funded, and very shortly we will begin installation in three pediatric hospitals in China. Imagine taking your sick or injured child to a hospital that is functioning without clean water! This should not be so, and it is a simple problem to fix!

With your help, we will install water purifications systems and drinking & hand washing stations at three more sites, and we will provide 10 years of spare parts, maintenance, training, and support, positioning each site to take ownership of its own system by year 11.

We would never have been able to achieve these results in China without the dedication, commitment, perseverance, and grit of a lot of folks. We are so proud of our entire China team, but we also owe a lot to the China Association of Social Workers and to the China Charity Federation for their belief in us when we were a very small and unknown player in the water sector.
