Thank you so much for supporting our December 2018 Drive on Global Giving! Because of your generosity, we can continued to provide women and young people in Palawan with life-saving information and services. We've provided contraceptive and prenatal support to women and girls for nearly 10 years. But now, with your support, we can also provide HIV services, including counseling and testing and connection to anti retroviral therapy. We're thrilled that we can now provide Palawenos with a one-stop-shop for reproductive health services. We're the only place they can go to access any all services related to reproductive health. And all our services are free! We can only do this because of people like you who continue to support our work. Thank you so much!!
Many of you have contributed to us for several years. This is what you supported in 2018!
In 2018, we provided over 14,000 women and girls with their contraceptive of choice, ensuring that they did not have an unplanned pregnancy.
We also supported nearly 600 pregnant women and girls, providing nearly 2,000 prenatal checkups and free prenatal vitamins. 85% of those clients had 4 or more prenatal checkups, and 99% gave birth in a facility with a skilled birth attendant.
In order to improve knowledge about sexual health, we also taught over 22,000 young people about their bodies and their health. As part of our support for youth and our work to reduce teen pregnancy, we also trained 167 principals and teachers in how to better support students’ sexual health needs.
To provide young people with peer education, we trained 124 youth advocates who referred nearly 1,000 young people to our clinic for contraceptive counseling, or to one of the city’s HIV testing sites for confidential HIV screening.
We continued to support our government counterparts with the creation of Municipal Implementation Teams for the Reproductive Health Law, by providing logistical support to health centers in order to avoid contraceptive stockouts, and by training nearly 1,000 community government health workers and health unit staff in reproductive health information, especially tackling adolescent needs. Connected with this, we created a tool to assess how youth-friendly government health centers are, and will be providing our city and municipal counterparts with the results in the new year. Our feedback will include which areas they can improve upon in order to encourage more young people to access health care.
We could not do our work without the support that people like you provide. Thank you for believing in us.
