Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for lifetime. ~ Chinese proverbs. As of the today we have 250 students enrolled into our school. We currently teach our students in tents. We would now like to break ground and build a school building. This building will have a capacity hold over 600 students, have over 20 classrooms, a library, and a technology room.
Pendus is a community on the North- east region of Haiti. It is an under served community with no access to health care and a sound education system is almost non-existent. According to Cia.gov, Haiti's literacy rate is approximately 61 % which is well below the 90% literacy rate of the Latin American and Caribbean countries. We are seeking the funds that will help build a school that can accommodate up to 800 students.
Currently the 250 students that are enrolled gather in a make shift school (tents) to learn. Two studies (Lewis 2000; Buckley, Schneider, and Shang 2004)_one in Los Angeles and the other among Milwaukee schools-directly observed school conditions and students' reported motivation levels. Students in well maintained schools tend to do better than those who are not.We know if we build a school that it will be a beacon of hope for current and future generation of Pendus.
Aider Haiti mission is to help educate and empower the youth of Pendus. We believe every child has the potential to learn and will do wonders when given the opportunities to maximize their potential. Our vision is to build a school that will represent a beacon of opportunity in the community. Within the walls of the facility we are hoping that students feel safe, vibrant, creative, and above all will develop a sense of compassion and responsibility to be the change their community needs.h
