Challenge

As Costa Rica and its educational system tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, indigenous communities are still one of the most vulnerable populations. There are still 65 indigenous schools in Costa Rica without electricity, limiting their access to learning opportunities. At the Omar Dengo Foundation, we believe that investing in a solar energy solution, is a commitment towards a decisive impact on these communities: an opportunity for Costa Rican indigenous children to grow with equal opportunities.

Solution

To bright up educational opportunities for 30 indigenous children in Costa Rica we will Assess the need for solar energy capacity, design the solution, make all necessary electrical improvements and install a photovoltaic system to provide electricity to the school. Once the solar panels are providing power, we will provide computer equipment and educational informatics learning proposal to all students and teachers.

Long-Term Impact

The project will directly benefit 30 indigenous students, 2 teachers and about 120 parents and siblings enhancing the quality of education and providing their school and community with access to electrical power through solar panels. The school would also serve as charging station, emergency shelter and access point to clean energy for the whole community.
