Autism spectrum disorder has exploded all over the world, while research and therapeutic techniques have not caught up to fully serve children facing learning challenges. MEDRIX is partnered with the National Pediatric Hospital in Vietnam to collaborate on diagnosis and treatment options for children who often already suffer from poverty and lack regular access to therapists. This collaboration will open doors for autism awareness, diagnosis and treatment in local and regional clinics.
Traditionally in Vietnam, children with disabilities were considered outcasts, not worthy of individual attention or education. Children with speech, hearing and language issues as well as learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders were labeled as "invalids" and considered unteachable and unable to learn or progress. These children are deprived of hope and a childhood. Attitudes are changing globally however, and MEDRIX is dedicated to supporting these children and increasing awareness.
This special education project is focused on training doctors, nurses, and special education teachers to work with children who have special learning needs such as autism. This project will help identify children with autism and learning disabilities, and help them receive the appropriate early intervention they need. Once they are evaluated, the children and their parents will be supported in obtaining the therapeutic tools that are required to help these children attain their full potential.
This research and intervention with children suffering from autism spectrum disorders and learning disabilities will further autism research globally, improving the lives of children in Vietnam exponentially. Currently, the national pediatric hospital in Vietnam tests and works with 100 kids a day to screen for autism and similar disabilities. This means thousands of children's lives will be dramatically improved through increased awareness, sensitivity and knowledge to provide hope to families
