On 20th September 2025, our community came together for the Be Bold Go Gold Walk/Run, a day of solidarity and meaningful impact, with over 1,800 participants joining the Running to Bridge the Academic Gap campaign, walking or running through forest trails to support children affected by cancer.Participants also joined virtually from across the globe. Every step they took helped more children access treatment, provided relief to families, and brought hope of improving survival rates in countries like Kenya from the current 2 in 10 to a hopeful 8 in 10.
We were especially honoured that Aaron Lipschutz initiated the Running to Bridge the Academic Gap project and chose to join the community on the day. He travelled all the way from Phoenix, Arizona, raising USD 10,000, a significant contribution to the USD 63,000 raised during the campaign. Aaron cares deeply about Faraja’s mission and is funding the pilot of our new education programme. The programme supports children whose schooling has been disrupted by illness, helping them continue learning while undergoing treatment.
The campaign was further strengthened by the remarkable efforts of schools, whose students and parents collectively raised over USD 2,700 through inspiring initiatives. A special mention goes to Nairobi International School, which raised USD 9,300, making it the top school fundraiser for the third consecutive year. We also celebrate Baraka from Peponi School, who emerged as the highest individual fundraiser for the third year running.
Thanks to this generosity, we can continue expanding our impact, supporting more children and caregivers, launching the education pilot in our partner hospitals, and sustaining Crafts for Cure sessions in art, music, and play at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), and Shoe4Africa at Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital (MTRH).
This collective effort, combining the dedication of individual participants like Aaron and the incredible support of schools and families, demonstrates the power of community to bridge gaps and create meaningful change for children affected by cancer.
Faraja Cancer Support Trust provides financial, emotional, practical, and healing support to children and their families throughout their cancer journey. We offer psychosocial support to children with cancer at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH), and The Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital within Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital (MTRH).
Every contribution counts! Your donations are making a real difference, changing the world one child at a time. Looking ahead, mark your calendars because we’ll be back next year on 26th September 2026. Visit our website to register your interest.
