Lonely elderly people in Bulgarian villages experience economic difficulties, lack access to medical care, and miss the cultural vibrancy of city life. On the other hand, many public buildings and spaces in villages have been abandoned and left collapsing, waiting to be revitalized into community hubs.
Baba Residence bridges the gap by allowing young professionals and artists to: Live for a month with elderly households creating bonds, exchanging stories, learning traditional crafts and supporting daily life challenges. Volunteer Actions: Renovating shared spaces, organizing cultural events, and fostering intergenerational connections. Social Entrepreneurship: Collaborating with the community to generate ideas that bring in resources, attention, and revitalization.
It creates a lasting network of solidarity and an intergenerational community. It's not just about preserving traditions; it's about building resilient communities that cherish the gifts, knowledge, and presence of each member. Baba Residence has now been in 19 villages with 1-month residency and in more than 36 villages with volunteer actions and charity campaigns.
