TB spreads fast due to overcrowded homes and stigma that keeps people from testing especially in illiterate and rural communities. Families hide symptoms, children get infected, and incomes collapse during long hospital stays. This project tackles TB at the source by screening families, educating communities, and supporting patients through treatment.
Our Interventions
Screen + Find: 40 people screened through our support as an organization. 7 had TB symptoms. 4 confirmed and started treatment at one of the government Hospital within 7 days.
Educate + Reduce Stigma: 4 community meetings reached 70 people with message: “TB is curable. Testing is free.” 22 local “TB Champions” trained from churches and elders to speak against stigma door-to-door.
Support + Heal: 34 patients + 112 family contacts received nutrition packs + transport for monthly hospital visits. Treatment adherence: 94%.
Strengthen Health Workers: 15 Village Health Team members trained on TB signs, contact tracing, and referrals. They now lead village screenings.
LONG-TERM IMPACT
- Sustainable model:“TB Champions” + VHTs form a local network for ongoing screening and referrals after funding ends.
BENEFICIARY VOICE
“I hid my cough for 3 months because people said TB is a curse. A VHT explained it’s a germ, not a curse, and helped me test. My children are safe and I’m healing.” - Okello Peter, 41years
