Teacher attitudes and skills are at the heart of safe schools. Yet, in Makurdi, many educators lack the training to handle bullying, gender-based violence, or trauma. According to UNICEF, only a small fraction of Nigerian teachers have received child protection or mental health training.
Our project addresses this gap head-on, training 100 teachers to become champions of care and prevention. We equip them with the tools to spot early signs of distress, de-escalate conflicts, and support students struggling with emotional or psychological issues. These teachers will lead by example, fostering classrooms built on trust and respect.
Through ongoing mentorship and support networks, we sustain this impact—ensuring teachers have the resources they need to serve as ongoing advocates for child protection. Meanwhile, our peer-support clubs and student life skills sessions extend the culture of care throughout the school.
When you support this initiative, you help transform teachers into agents of change, enabling them to play a pivotal role in building safe, inclusive learning environments for all students.
