Far too many students in Makurdi walk into school each day with fear, not excitement. With 80% reporting experiences of bullying or violence, the emotional toll is staggering. According to the World Bank, students suffering from school-based violence are more likely to drop out and less likely to achieve their academic potential.
Our project is designed to reverse this trend. By training teachers and establishing peer-support clubs, we’ll create a safety net for students. Psychosocial services will help 150 vulnerable students recover from trauma, while ongoing awareness campaigns will address stigma and encourage healthy emotional expression.
We’ll also work closely with parents and local authorities to ensure that safeguarding policies are more than just words—they are lived realities in every classroom.
When you support this project, you invest in more than education—you invest in students’ mental health, resilience, and future success. Together, we can restore trust in the promise of education and ensure every child in Makurdi has the support they need to flourish.
