Summary

Although polio vaccination campaigns have reduced new cases, the DR Congo has many disabled people for whom vaccination came too late, including many children and young people. With a population of over 100 million, the DRC is one of the poorest countries, ranking last on the UN Development Index. These people are too poor to access healthcare, orthopaedic support and education. This project aims to support 365 disabled children who need medical support, mobility autonomy and educational support

Challenge

The problem lies in the precarious living conditions of disabled children and youth in our country. They face discrimination and abandonment, hindering their mobility, education, and self-esteem. Without intervention, the consequences will be dire. Due to extreme poverty and political unrest in the DRC, most families cannot afford specialized treatments or orthopedic devices for their disabled children, impacting their mobility and education, thus hindering their social and economic well-being.

Solution

This project aims to empower as many motor-disabled children as possible by providing corrective treatment and customized orthopedic devices for improved mobility, independence, dignity, self-respect, and confidence. Additionally, educational support will be provided, covering school fees in inclusive schools to foster autonomy for their future lives.

Long-Term Impact

This project integrates disabled children into mainstream schools and social activities, fostering societal understanding and acceptance of disability. Long-term effects include normalized interactions, improved skills, and empowered disabled individuals serving as advocates for disability rights.
