Care2Travel will provide after-school programs in Transylvanian schools with high concentrations of Roma children to provide them the necessary skills and support to discontinue the cycle of poverty that their families have experienced for generations. Our program will bring in specialized teachers after school to ensure these disadvantaged children can perform at the social and educational level they are expected to, while keeping them fed and off the streets.
Roma children tend to lack the physiological necessities, meaning that there is little emphasis on literacy, homework, and life skills. This mindset causes Roma children to fail school by the 3rd grade due to regulations set by the Romanian school system. This severely limits the children's future opportunities and job prospects as well as negatively impacting the poverty-level of the communities they live in.
Funds going towards this project will provide these children with a lunch that they may not get at home as well as a specialized teacher to educate them in life-skills and help them keep up in school. By providing these after school programs in places with high concentrations of Roma children, we will be able to teach necessary skills and positively influence them to continue their schooling and get a job that will allow them to live outside of the slums.
We want to reach the Roma children of Transylvania in order to break the cycle of poverty that they often follow their parents into. We believe that by focusing on the younger generation, we can break the barriers that inhibit Roma society's ability to integrate into Romanian society, while retaining their cultural heritage. Our program will help build future generations who can thrive as contributing members of society.
