Project Report | Sep 26, 2026
Helping Vulnerable Girls Build Skills and thrive.

By Daniel Okello | Executive Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank you for supporting Break Barriers to Education Access in Uganda. Your generosity is helping vulnerable children and girls overcome barriers to education while gaining practical skills for a more secure future.

During this reporting period, Passion Aid Foundation Africa continued preparing and implementing activities to reduce key barriers to school attendance and participation among vulnerable learners, and we are currently providing practical training in tailoring and fashion design to 15 young girls in the school and out-of-school systems.

With support from our donors and partners such as you, we focused on identifying vulnerable children and engaging schools, parents, and communities to better understand the challenges affecting their access to education. These challenges include the lack of essential scholastic materials, school uniforms, shoes, school bags, and menstrual health and hygiene materials for vulnerable girls.

Achievements This Quarter

During this reporting period, Passion Aid Foundation Africa (PAFA):

  • Identified and assessed 250 orphaned and vulnerable learners.
  • Engaged 4 schools and surrounding communities in Lira and Alebtong District.
  • Started tailoring and practical survival skills training for vulnerable girls, allowing them to develop skills that can support future self-reliance and income generation.

A Story of Hope: Tracy

Tracy is one of the 15 vulnerable girls benefiting from PAFA’s programme during school holidays. During her school holiday, she began learning tailoring and practical garment-making skills. She is a semi-candidate student from St Katherine Secondary School.

The training is enabling Tracy to develop a valuable skill that she can use in the future to earn an income, support herself, and contribute to her family. It is also helping her build confidence and explore opportunities beyond the challenges currently affecting her education.

“I am studying to become a lawyer. However, Uganda’s new school curriculum emphasises practical and hands-on skills, which has encouraged me to develop an interest in agriculture, fashion, and design. I use my holiday period to learn additional skills. So far, I have learned how to sew.”

Tracy’s story demonstrates that when vulnerable girls are given practical skills, encouragement, and opportunities, they can begin building confidence and a pathway towards greater independence.

Planned Activities

During the next reporting period, PAFA will continue strengthening support for vulnerable girls through practical skills development, menstrual health education, and referral support.

Planned activities include:

  • Conducting menstrual health and hygiene education.
  • Training girls on the correct use, care, washing, and reuse of reusable sanitary pads.
  • Establishing referral pathways within school systems for girls who require additional protection, health, or psychosocial support.
  • Distributing reusable sanitary pad kits to vulnerable girls.
  • Continuing tailoring, fashion design, and survival skills training.
  • Monitoring girls’ participation, progress, and emerging support needs.

These activities will address practical barriers affecting girls’ dignity, wellbeing, and participation in education. They will also equip girls with knowledge, skills, and support systems that can contribute to improved educational outcomes and future livelihood opportunities.

Looking Ahead

PAFA remains committed to working with schools, families, communities, donors, and partners to ensure that vulnerable children—especially girls—have the opportunity to remain in school, develop practical skills, and pursue brighter futures.

Your support is helping vulnerable girls access education, gain confidence, learn valuable skills, and overcome barriers that might otherwise limit their potential.

With gratitude,

Passion Aid Foundation Africa (PAFA) team.
