The NEW Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles County will open on June 9, 2014 with that being the first day of Summer Camp. Construction of the new building has been completed. It became apparent that the Board of Directors could no longer wait to raise the balance of the funds needed to complete the new Club. The old Club was constructed 60 years ago and was in dire need of repairs that were too costly to accomplish. So the decision was made to move forward, complete the facility and continue to raise the balance of the needed funds for a new Club. There is an outstanding balance of $2M that needs to be raised to meet the "Campaign for Great Futures" Goal.
Currently the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County serves 1500 children annually. Many of our members are considered to be "at risk" due to living in or below the poverty level as determined by the federal goverment. Many of our members are from single parent families and find the Boys & Girls Club to be their home away from home. The Club has addressed the areas that are important to a childs future and they are; being academically successful, living a healthy lifestyle, being of good character and possess quality leadership skills.
Programs offered at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County all follow our focus areas. Only to mention a few: Power Hour, Reading for Success, diplomas2DEGREES, Robo Tech, Smart Moves, Passport to Manhood, Smart Girls, as well as Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Karate and Cheerleading. A very vital program offered at the Boys & Girls Club is the Summer and After School Food Program. Over the past twelve months the Club has provided, free of charge, over 26,000 meals and snacks to our boys and girls. Many children enter our Club from spending their day at school to find their evening meal. If it were not for this Program, many of our members would go home to no food in the house and without proper nourshiment until they returned to school or the Boys & Girls Club for their next meal. It is known that a child without proper nutrition does not do well in school, is unable to concentrate and will experience health issues in their adult life. Unhealthy eating and lack of nutrition is a source of many problems in the life or our children.
It is imperative and greatly appreciated that you become a part of the Boys & Girls Club mission by helping all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens as we assist them in planning their future. .
