Each of our Club units recently held their Junior Youth of the Year competitions. The Junior Youth of the Year program is a multi-month leadership program specifically for emerging Club leaders ages 10-13. As part of the program, members must write essays, give speeches, and compete in front of volunteer judges. This year's program involves 9 participants and 8 of the 9 are young ladies.
Last week they presented their speeches and in almost every speech, the students shared they wanted to later go into a field focused on STEM. In response to being asked what they want to be when they grow up, these leaders responded they wanted to become a surgeon, a veterinarian, work for the space program, and teach science in school. We are proud that their Club experience provides opportunities for them to explore future careers, especially careers in STEM. Members shared the impact of visiting Boeing, meeting with a vet technician, and completing STEM activities helped them discover potential careers centered on science, technology, engineering, and math.
We wish our final four participants luck as they head into their final competitions this Saturday. Thank you for supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County!
