We are now into the swing of a brand new year and you know what that means - many new and exciting things are happening at Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada! Here is a snapshot of what we've been up to over the past few months:
Celebrating Boys and Girls Club Alumni Taylor Hall
In our most recent issue of IMPACT, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada's National Newsletter, Edmonton Oilers superstar Taylor Hall tells us how Boys and Girls Clubs helped him score in life. Taylor says one of the most interesting things about being part of the Club was meeting kids who were “kids of different races, ages, and kids who go to different schools.” When Taylor was 13, he and his family left Calgary and moved to Kingston, Ontario, so Taylor could further his hockey career. However, he didn’t forget about the Boys and Girls Club, and continues to support the organization to this day. Way to go, Taylor!
A Magical Trip to Walt Disney World
This holiday season, 16 youth leaders from Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada had the opportunity to travel to Walt Disney World on December 3. This one-of-a-kind experience was made possible by WestJet, through their WestJet Cares for Kids program, as well as by Walt Disney World Resorts (Canada). Boys and Girls Clubs staff chaperoned the teens throughout the four-day outing, along with a number of WestJetters who volunteered their time to accompany them. The teens participated in pay-it-forward activities, teambuilding and leadership development when they weren’t simply being kids at Walt Disney World!
Pink Shirt Day
On February 26, Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada will unite to help raise awareness of the issue of bullying. Our movement will wear Pink shirts to symbolize that we, as a society, will not tolerate bullying anywhere! The idea stemmed from two incredible youth in Nova Scotia and has grown to be a nationally recognized day. Stay tuned for more updates on how Clubs across Canada celebrated this very special Day.
Thank you again for donating and changing the lives of thousands of children and youth across Canada! We will continue to keep you updated in the months ahead.
