Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is thrilled with the progress of the GameTech program.
In 2011, BGCC, in partnership with AMD, launched the GameTech pilot program at two Boys and Girls Club locations - Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Clubs and the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough. During the pilot year, 60 Club members participated in GameTech and created a total of 35 games.
Both Clubs continue to run the program on a weekly basis, due to the positive response of their members and look forward to continuing the program throughout 2012. One site will introduce the program to their older youth participants while the other Club is planning future ‘game off’ competitions, to showcase what they have learned.
The tremendous support from AMD, and from our individual online GlobalGiving donors, is providing our Club members with many important skill sets - especially in this new digital age - such as systems thinking, introductory programming concepts, principles of game design, and the process of iterative design. In addition, this program provides young people with access and information pertaining to potential careers in the Gaming sector – providing the opportunity to better their current situation and create the foundation for a successful future.
Thank you for your support of this innovative program. We look forward to keeping you updated on our continued progress and how our members are benefiting from their participation.
