Happy Spring! The weather is finally turning warmer as we head into the spring season – the time of year where everything is new, fresh and in bloom once again! It’s no different for Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada – our young people have been working hard to complete new projects, strive for good grades and really ramp up their learning before breaking for the summer. Here are a few updates on what’s been happening in our Clubs on the education front:
Six More Centres and Growing!
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s National program Rogers Raising the Grade (RRTG) is really ramping up! We recently launched 6 new Technology Centres across Canada, bringing the total number of Rogers Raising the Grade sites to 36. Raising the Grade was developed to increase academic skills and high school graduation rates for youth at risk. Believing that with education, anything is possible, Rogers Youth Fund partnered with BGCC to provide young people with the tools they need to succeed in today’s classroom. As we approach the end of the second year of the program in June, we can’t wait to see the first graduates get their high school diplomas and start post-secondary education in the fall!
After-school Homework Help Programs
Through our local Club homework help programs, our young people have access to 1 on 1 homework support with trained staff and volunteer tutors at our Clubs to ensure they do not fall behind. But that’s not all – they also have access to a plethora of different educational and learning opportunities at the Club that stretch beyond homework - giving them the skills and tools they need to grow their abilities even further. Club members have access to programs that help with resume building, technology skills, video game development, careers in the skilled trades, access to food and nutrition education programs, job shadowing opportunities, and so much more! Your support also allows our clubs to purchase much needed supplies such as rulers, calculators, workbooks, computer software, and other resources that our young members need in order to succeed - and most often don't have access to.
Thankfully, because of caring people like you, our children and youth continue to have the support they need to help keep their grades on track and achieve success in school. We are so grateful for your continued support. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of young Canadians across the country.
We look forward to providing you with more updates about our important work in the months ahead.
