Challenge

There is still a persistent gap that exists between those with access to resources and those without. Those without sufficient support during the after school hours to strengthen their academic and technological skills are at a distinct disadvantage as they are increasingly unable to compete in the work force. The Homework Help program is designed to support our young people in achieving academic and individual success, while providing much needed access to technology to support their learning.

Solution

While schools remain an important source of a child's learning and development, the support recieved out side of school hours are also critical for academic success. With support from Dell, BGCC will help to strengthen technological literacy and increase academic achievement by: 1. Providing the necessary up-to-date technology to support active, student directed learning and 2. Providing training for BGC staff to build IT skills through Professional Learning opportunities

Long-Term Impact

The Homework Help program aligns with Dell's vision of preparing youth for success in the 21st century by providing the necessary mentors, tools and opportunities that make it possible for thousands of low income and rural youth to learn, grow and participate fully in the global workplace - which, in turn, is critical to the resiliency and growth of our Country.
