Harnessing the power of equine assisted wellness!

By Colleen Cheechalk | Executive Director

Harnessing the power of the horse and human bond
Harnessing the power of the horse and human bond

Hello everyone! We have important (and AMAZING!) news to share with you all, so we hope you won't mind this extra project report!

If you have visited our Facebook page and website, you've probably already noticed the change. Since we have been on Globalgiving.org you've known us as Borrowed Freedom Equine Assisted Therapies and Activities, Inc., and our organization has served children and adults with physical, psychological, developmental and socio-economic special needs since 2008. In fact, hundreds have found new beginnings and improved health and wellness with our programming.

So what’s the exciting news? We are now The Center For Equine Assisted Wellness, Inc.

And why a new name, and whole new start?

As we grew and expanded our reach, we found that our true strength and gifts were in facilitating the connections between horse and human through learning and wellness. This is where we started from...and our "roots". During the planning phase for our next 5 years of service, the team began sensing a trend, a change, in the way we felt about the programs we currently offered, our successes and even our failures (yes! All organizations have them!) and the programs that are in development. We wanted more hands on sessions, more eye to eye contact, more heart to heart connections, and we knew that those can only come from the ground based equine assisted learning programs that have been our specialty since the very beginning. The clients we serve has changed as well, and we find we serve more adults than we ever have. While it sounds counterproductive, we wanted to move away from structured mounted work such as Therapeutic Riding, because we know, based upon our years of experience, that the real change and growth for our clients come from their interactions on the ground...not only in the saddle.

The result of the change is a renewed commitment to the overwhelming need to serve those who need us most…both horse, and human…so we made the decision to take Borrowed Freedom forward with a new direction toward progressive and cutting edge equine assisted learning and wellness including ground based learning programs for children and adults of all abilities, research, and much more. Because of the sweeping changes, we felt it was the perfect time to step forward with a new name to match our new beginnings, and we hope you are excited as we are to announce that Borrowed Freedom Equine Assisted Therapies and Activities, Inc. is now The Center For Equine Assisted Wellness, Inc.

Our mission remains the same, our commitment is stronger than ever, all we need now is for you to join our volunteer team, clients, horses, and our community in celebrating this huge step toward a bright and purposeful future for our organization. You can find our new website by visiting www.equineassistedwellness.org, but if you have www.borrowedfreedom.org bookmarked, you'll still be able to reach us using that link. We also welcome you to join our newsletter. You can sign up on our website, or use our super simple text to sign up option! Send a text to 22828 with the following: THECENTERFOREAW and you'll be all signed up and ready to receive all the good news happening at the farm!

What will you see here on Globalgiving.org?

The great folks at Globalgiving.org have been super responsive to our organizational changes and are updating our information as I type this. Our name and logo will change, and your future project reports will also reflect these changes. For those of you who so generously support our work with a monthly gift, rest assured that your support will still be used for the programs you feel strongly about. However, you will see that your project will shift to our main project "Harnessing The Power Of Equine Assisted Wellness", as this project will be retired so we can avoid any confusion that may occur with our name change.

Please bear with us as we make the changes over the next few days. We anticipate that all the new website, contact and services information will be fully updated on or before 7/25/2015. We cannot thank you all enough for your support over the years, and we hope we can count on you as we continue our mission to serve the Southern Tier of NY under this new and expanded direction!

Warmly and so very, very gratefully...
Colleen
