Help Bring Equine Therapy To 30 Children in 2015!

by The Center for Equine Assisted Wellness, Inc.

Borrowed Freedom provides scholarship based Therapeutic (Adaptive) Riding, Hippotherapy and Equine Experiential Education for more than 45 clients with physical, intellectual, developmental, emotional and socio-economic special needs. All sessions are delivered at no charge for those with demonstrated need through a comprehensive scholarship program. When this project is funded we will be able to help 30 children receive the life changing benefits of equine therapies and activities in 2015.

Our children are struggling, especially youth at risk who are navigating an uncertain world. They have inadequate opportunity to learn the vital life skills that will help them grow into functional, productive adults. This leads to health-risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults. Equine therapies are a proven tool to help youth find their inner power and peace, they are however, costly, and it is a financial burden few families can bear.

We aren't offering a free riding program, instead, we use our program as a catalyst for change for youth at risk. By including a volunteer component, we achieve several important levels of success including the financial health and stability of the program, a sense of community pride, parents setting a charitable example for their children, and children learning the joys of volunteerism, and all will learn vital life skills including healthy examples of personal ethics and responsibility.

Long-Term Impact

Through volunteerism, agricultural, environmental and equine activities, children learn to respectfully care for each other, therapy horses, and the rescued horses in rehabilitation at Epona Farm Sanctuary. As they learn to care for each other, these 30 children will also improve their health, wellness, self-esteem, and learn vital life and character skills such as planning, dependability, responsibility and ethics. All qualities needed for a full, productive life in work, family and community.
